As Texas hurtles toward a flashpoint on a GOP effort to redraw congressional districts, California Democrats are about to answer with a plan of their own.

Gov. Gavin Newsom and Texas Democrats jointly promoted California’s plan to redraw congressional lines and offset a redistricting scheme in Texas.

Gov. Gavin Newsom will visit Los Angeles on Thursday to announce an effort to redraw the state’s congressional districts — countering a similar move in Texas.

Districts are normally redrawn every 10 years, based on updated census data. The districts drawn under the midcensus redistricting plan would be in effect for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 federal elections, after which California would return to its prior system.
