Ultimately, after a spirited town hall session, Jackson decides against sending a militia to Seattle to take revenge on Abby—who just brutally murdered Joel (Pedro Pascal) in front of Ellie's eyes. But that doesn't stop Ellie, who decides to head out of town with just Dina for a chance at vengeance.

Because although episode 3 may not have been quite as gut-churning, there were still plenty of moments to catch us out — from Tommy's (Gabriel Luna's) comment about Sarah (Nico Parker) to the subtle tweak to the show's opening credits.

As a ginormous fan of the source material, I fully understand and support the reasons for maintaining the fidelity and timing of Joel's death, even as other changes were made to the timeline to justify Abby's left-field violence.
