The measles outbreak that’s sickened hundreds and killed two young girls since January appears to be slowing in West Texas as the virus runs out of people to infect.

Texas’ measles outbreak has grown to 702 cases across 29 counties, according to a Tuesday update from the state public health department. The Texas Department of State Health Services estimates that less than 1% of those cases — or fewer than 10 of the reported cases — are “actively infectious.

Denton County Public Health officials have reported the second case of measles in the county, according to a news release on Monday, May 5. The infected person is a child with an unknown vaccination status and a recent history of international travel, according to the release.
