WASHINGTON – Amtrak board of directors nominee Robert Gleason Jr., a Westmont resident, pointed to the positive impact that increasing passenger rail service could potentially make for Johnstown and other small communities Tuesday during his confirmation hearing.

Elon Musk's tunneling firm, the Boring Company, had recent talks to assess if it could help with an Amtrak project in the Northeastern U.S., the New York Times reports. The project is the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program connecting Baltimore to Washington and Virginia.

The Federal Railroad Administration has brought in the tunneling company to see if it could help with a multibillion-dollar rail project.
