"Gran Torino": Clint Eastwood gives one of his most enjoyable performances in this story of a Detroit racist who finds himself defending and befriending the Hmong family that has moved in next door.

To think Gran Torino is a masterpiece, you have to accept the contrived setups and sledgehammer melodrama. You have to grade the movie on that same meathead-vigilante curve.
