February 06, 2025 The rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23) have called on the population of Goma, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to rally at the Unity Stadium, following the appointment of Joseph Bahati Musanga as the new governor of the province of North Kivu.

When M23 rebels swept into the Congolese city of Goma this week, world powers urged them to immediately withdraw. Instead, the Rwanda-backed insurgents are intent on showing they can restore order and govern.

United Nations (UN), and partner organizations have reported that 700 people were killed during the March 23 Movement (M23) rebels’ insurgency in Goma City, North Kivu province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
