As if the Yankees did not have enough problems on their hands, Clarke Schmidt walked off the mound after three innings.

TORONTO — Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt was in the midst of a bad start against the Blue Jays on Thursday night at Rogers Stadium when things got a lot worse. After the Yanks scored two runs in the top of the third to tie the game 3-3, Schmidt didn’t return for the fourth inning with his pitch count at 55.

Gil was scheduled to throw 50 pitches on Sunday and then build up his pitch count in subsequent rehab appearances.

With the Yankees’ bullpen decimated by injuries and leaning on a few call-ups in recent weeks, the club could really use Loáisiga at his best. They haven’t gotten that, though.
