Mayor Aftab Pureval dominated the three-person mayoral primary May 6. Pureval, a Democrat, won with 83% of the vote. Republican Cory Bowman, despite a last-minute endorsement from his half-brother, Vice President JD Vance, came in a distant second with 13% of the vote.

The incumbent mayor, Aftab Pureval, a Democrat who easily won his last election, will face Cory Bowman, a Republican and half brother of Vice President JD Vance, in the general election in November.
