Much like its creator, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence chatbot Grok was preoccupied with South African racial politics on social media this week, posting unsolicited claims about the persecution and “genocide” of white people.

Elon Musk has spoken out about the bill multiple times, often alongside his claims that a "white genocide" is taking place in South Africa, usually in reference to farm murders and the political rhetoric of Julius Malema, the head of a left-wing political party the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

You’ll notice that xAI, which is owned by Elon Musk, strongly suggests there was an internal actor who made this “unauthorized modification” but doesn’t use the language you’d expect if it was an employee at the company. And we’re guessing that might have something to do with the fact that it wasn’t an employee necessarily, but the owner.
