Smokey Robinson and his wife were named in a lawsuit alleging sexual assault, false imprisonment, and labor violations dating back to 2006.

A lawyer for Smokey Robinson said late Wednesday that the sexual assault allegations against the Motown singer were “vile” and “false” and that a lawsuit filed by the four women making the accusations was an attempt to extract millions of dollars from him.

Smokey Robinson is regarded as the king of Motown legends and one of the iconic Black pop artists in the latter half of the 20th century.
