No Pete Alonso, no problem. The 2025 Home Run Derby got a massive power boost Tuesday when Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz was announced for the event. Cruz will join a suddenly stacked group of power hitters in the contest, which includes Cal Raleigh, James Wood, Byron Buxton and Ronald Acuña Jr.
The format worked wonders in 2024 as Teoscar Hernandez out-dueled Bobby Witt Jr. in the final round. Notably, Bryce Harper in 2018 was the last player to win a Home Run Derby in his home stadium. We'll see if Acuna can end that streak.
Also competing are Atlanta's Ronald Acuña Jr., Minnesota's Byron Buxton, Seattle's Cal Raleigh and Washington's James Wood.
