WATE 6 On Your Side on MSNNWS confirms a nearly mile-wide EF-4 tornado hit Laurel County, KentuckyThe National Weather Service has released that the deadly tornado that impacted parts of Pulaski and Laurel counties over the weekend in Kentucky was an EF-4 tornado and was nearly a mile wide.
In Louisville, storms are expected to arrive sometime between 5-8 p.m. Maps issued by NWS Louisville at 12:03 p.m. showed southwestern Kentucky, including Bowling Green, under a greater than 10% risk for tornadoes of at least EF-2 strength within 25 miles.
The National Weather Service has finished its survey of the deadly tornado that ripped through southeastern Kentucky last week.

The twister had max winds of 170 mph, a max width of 1700 yards and traveled 55.6 miles, according to the National Weather Service.
Deputy Chief and longtime friend Terry Wattenbarger says they lost contact with Leatherman during the search and rescue of victims. “It was actually him who had been shielding her from being injured, so we feel that he gave his life saving someone else’s life,” Wattenbarger said.
