Forecasters warned Monday that more tornados and storms were possible in the central U.S. as people from Texas to Kentucky cleaned up from severe weather that has killed more than two dozen people in four days.
A couple from Laurel County in Kentucky is recovering in a local hospital after a possible EF-3 tornado tore through their home and ripped their arms off as they held each other through the storm.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that a powerful EF-4 tornado tore through southern Kentucky on Friday night, devastating communities across multiple counties.

Marshall Miracle is the youngest of the confirmed victims of two tornadoes that touched down late the night of May 16 in southeastern Kentucky. In an update Tuesday afternoon, officials said the tornado that traveled between Pulaski and Laurel counties was an EF-4 with peak winds of 170 mph. It was on the ground for more than 55 miles and was nearly a mile wide at its maximum width.
Gov. Andy Beshear praised the Trump administration’s response to a deadly tornado in his state, even as he worried about cuts at NWS.
Despite nearly everything but them being taken away in the storms, the former pastor says his unique sense of optimism is what keeps him going.
