MINNEAPOLIS, (Reuters) - Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a Minnesota Democratic state lawmaker and her husband while posing as a police officer, Governor Tim Walz said.

Vance Luther Boelter is the primary suspect in the deaths of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.

Boelter claimed to have a doctorate of education, and said he spent extensive time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa — where he was seen in videos apparently preaching on stage.

Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in Minnesota shooting, was previously appointed to the Governor's Workforce Development Council by Tim Walz.

Authorities are investigating reports of "targeted shootings" in suburban Minneapolis in what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said was an "ongoing situation." The shootings were in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, two neighboring cities about 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis, Walz said Saturday morning.
