Nostalgia as entertainment is nothing new. But it has not yet been fully exploited for the Zillennial age demographic, now one of the largest age groups in the U.S.

The film was originally aimed for Disney+. But it was rerouted to a theatrical release and is on a pace for at least $950 million in ticket sales.

Over 20 years since first crashing onto the big screen, Disney’s cheekiest blue alien has returned in live-action and rocketed to global box office success with Lilo & Stitch delivering the second-highest opening weekend for a film this year, trailing only A Minecraft Movie.
