Maine is the only state to have what's known as a yellow flag law, but some say it's not enough. The red flag law would take its interventions a step further.

Also known as an extreme-risk protection order, this intervention goes a step further than the yellow-flag law.

The measure could land on the ballot in November, giving voters a chance to expand who can initiate the process to confiscate guns from those at risk.
