A federal appeals court late Thursday paused a ruling that required President Donald Trump to return control of members of California’s National Guard to the state.

California Gov. Newsom said the ruling by Judge Charles Breyer was a "check" on President Trump, "whose authoritarian tendencies are increasing by the day."

Trump deployed National Guard troops in Los Angeles in response to violent demonstrations against immigration enforcement.
