Israeli hostage Edan Alexander, who had been held captive by Hamas in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, was released on Monday after successful negotiations between the U.S. and the terrorist organization, the Israel Defense Forces said.

As Edan Alexander is released, nearly two dozen hostages are believed to be alive in Gaza, including a student, a software tester, a bartender and several soldiers.

Hamas’s military spokesman, known by his nom de guerre, Abu Obaida, said in a video statement Monday morning that the militant group plans to release Alexander “today.”
