Arsenal manager Renee Slegers has said she is "very happy" after being appointed as permanent head coach and revealed there were several moments in recent weeks where she felt that she would really like to lead the north London club.

Renée Slegers, the interim head coach of Arsenal since October 15, has finally been offered a contract and will become the ninth different permanent manager of the club.

Slegers left Arsenal without making an appearance and returned to the Netherlands to launch her professional career with Willem II before moving to clubs in Sweden. Slegers, who made 55 appearances for the Dutch national team, was a talented midfielder, as her former international team-mate Leonne Stentler explains.
