South Africa’s government plans to offer Elon Musk a workaround of local Black-ownership laws for his Starlink internet service to operate in the country, aiming to ease tensions with both the billionaire and US President Donald Trump.

Nevertheless, Bloomberg reports that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa reportedly made a “last-minute” decision to allow Starlink to bypass the laws ahead of crunch talks at the White House on Wednesday, as the two countries seek to reset relations and secure a trade deal following months of deteriorating relations.

The EFF says Ramaphosa has no power to bypass necessary BEE laws, following reports that Elon Musk's Starlink will operate in South Africa.
