A rift erupted between Zohran Mamdani’s leftist Democratic Socialist allies and House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, with threats of running primaries against each other.
In the poll by Slingshot Strategies, first reported by the New York Post, Mamdani has 36 percent of the vote compared to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo 's 27 percent and current New York City Mayor Eric Adams' 14 percent. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa landed 16 percent of the vote and independent candidate Jim Walden received 2 percent.
The Eric Adams who was elected to be New York City’s second Black mayor in 2021 delivered a general election victory speech not so dissimilar from the one Zohran Mamdani gave last month. Both spoke of unity, hope and healing, of shared victories, building bridges and the collective power of New Yorkers.
