Mosquera’s move to Arsenal was officially confirmed on Thursday as the central defender joins from Valencia in a deal worth £13million (€15million), thus becoming the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window. The talented defender has signed a five-year deal in north London, with an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres is expected to complete a move to Arsenal from Sporting this weekend. BBC Sport has previously reported a £63.5m deal was in the final stages, with the move only held up because of negotiations between the clubs over add-on payments.

The reshaping of the Arsenal squad is just one of the adaptations Arteta is making in his quest to end Arsenal’s wait for silverware. “The only thing that (the players) were talking about at the end of last season and the first day through the door is, ‘OK, how are we going to be better?
