India and Pakistan agreed on May 10 to end days of fighting, after the worst confrontation between the two countries in decades.

India scaled down its diplomatic relations with Pakistan as part of its retaliatory measures. It expelled all Pakistani defence attachés, declaring them "persona non grata" (unwelcome) and announced it would withdraw its own defence advisers from its high commission in Islamabad.

India’s four-day military showdown with Pakistan set several new precedents. For military officials from outside the region, the most intriguing one was Pakistan’s use of advanced Chinese fighter jets and missiles in aerial combat with Western-made counterparts.
