Facing the WNBA’s most hapless franchise, the Valkyries played arguably their worst game of the season in Connecticut after flying in at 9 a.m. local time on Saturday and tipping off at noon on Sunday.
Kayla Thornton, a first-time WNBA All-Star this season, underwent a successful surgery and will begin her recovery after helping the Valkyries to a competitive start in their first year as an expansion franchise.
The Valkyries shot 30.3% from the field in the first half and trailed by as much as 11. Janelle Salaün and Tiffany Hayes combined to score 16 points to keep the Valkyries within striking distance as the Wings took a 36-30 lead at halftime.
