Katherine Dunham (1909-2006)—the renowned dancer, anthropologist, choreographer, and activist implemented cultural traditions of the African diaspora through her choreography and dancing. What’s known as the “Dunham Technique” is a blend of Afro-Caribbean dance styles in which she created from her travels and research in the Caribbean, specifically in Ayiti 🇭🇹 . In the 1930s, Dunham transformed American dance by bringing awareness of African and Caribbean cultures to Eurocentric dance world. H
